A teenage drug smuggling suspect is facing criminal charges after leading authorities on a chase that ended with his truck crashing into a Rio Grande City business.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the chase started in Sullivan City but ended 18 miles away in Rio Grande City just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers tried to pull over a blue pickup truck in Sullivan City but the driver refused to stop.

The blue pickup truck hit two cars and crashed into the Boost Mobile cell phone store off 2nd and San Antonio Streets in Rio Grande City.

State troopers reported seizing 460 pounds of marijuana from inside the truck.

Paramedics rushed the teenage driver to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said the driver claimed to be 15 years old but authorities are working to confirm his identity.

Boost Mobile employees said the store remains open but may soon be closed temporarily while crews work to repair a broken door and window.

One employee at the store did not appear to be physically injured but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
