Drug pursuit leads to three-car crash in Rio Grande City

A pursuit in Rio Grande City ended with a three-car crash around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities pursued a suspect in a Dodge Intrepid down Highway 83 after they refused to stop to an officer.

The pursuit ended when the Dodge rear ended a Ford Expedition at the intersection of Main and Texas Street.

The Ford then spun out of control and struck a Chevy Silverado.

A father and toddler in the Ford were taken to the county hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the Dodge attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was caught a block away by police.

Authorities found 486 pounds of marijuana in the back of the Dodge.

The driver was taken into custody and is expected to face charges.
