Two former South Texas sheriff's deputies have been sentenced to prison for conspiring to use their official vehicles to steal cocaine.
A federal judge in McAllen sentenced 35-year-old Ruben Silva of Freer to nearly 9 years in prison and 28-year-old Victor Carrillo of Benavides to nearly 6 years.
Both men are former Duval County sheriff's deputies who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Silva and Carrillo conspired to use their official vehicles for a fake traffic stop that would allow them to steal drugs from another smuggler. Both men pleaded guilty in August.
Two co-conspirators were sentenced to prison last year.
Duval County is about 120 miles south of San Antonio.
