A night of drinking ended with a man behind bars after he rear-ended an elderly couple TMs car in Palmhurst early Sunday morning.

Palmhurst police arrested 24-year-old David Axel De Leon on an intoxication assault charge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that they believe De Leon was drunk while behind the wheel of a blue Toyota Corolla.

Officers were called to the 100 block of West 3 Mile Line Road for an auto accident around 6 a.m. Sunday.

De Leon allegedly told police that he had been drinking and did not see the other car at the red light.

Paramedics rushed one of the passengers in the other car to the hospital.

Officers arrested De Leon at the scene after he allegedly performed poorly on a field sobriety test.

De Leon appeared before a Palmhurst Municipal Court judge on Monday morning where he was issued a $2,500 bond.
