Unofficial results: Rodriguez moves forward to general election
Ricardo Rodriguez will represent the Democratic party in the Hidalgo County District Attorney race for the November general elections.
Rodriguez won about 79 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results published by the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
Rodriguez edged out former Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra, who was the county’s district attorney for more than 30 years before Rodriguez claimed the title in 2014.
The district attorney is responsible for prosecuting crimes and investigating cases in cooperation with law enforcement. One of the biggest differences between the two candidates is their views on Irene Garza, whose murder remained unsolved for decades.
After Rodriguez reopened the nearly 60-year-old case, former priest John Feit was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison in December 2017.
