Edcouch-Elsa school district superintendent retires, but isn't ready to stop working
While Superintendent Richard Rivera will retire from the Edcouch-Elsa school district by month's end, he's not quite ready to stop working.
Rivera will become interim superintendent at the La Villa school district in July.
He'll bring about five decades of experience with him.
After retiring from the Weslaco school district, Rivera took the top job at Edcouch-Elsa in 2012.
"Very proud to say that during these five years we spent about $20 million on different things — facilities, technologies, teacher salaries — without raising taxes," Rivera said.
He'll head east on State Highway 107 to La Villa.
"I think they need a little stability," Rivera said. "I think they've had several superintendents in a few years."
Rivera will also remain on the Weslaco school board.
