A group of former high school dropouts received their diploma in Edinburg.
The Vision Academy, a recovery program created by the superintendent of Edinburg CISD, gives dropouts a second chance at a high school diploma.
Today, the school graduated its 500th student.
Vision academy was founded three and a half years ago. The program helps high school dropouts earn both high school and college credits. Officials say many of the students already have children and need flexible schedules. Parents of the graduating students stood and watched as their daughters and sons walked the stage.
I didn TMt think he was going to do it, so I TMm happy he graduated, and he already got a job so he can support his son. Not only are students given an education, but teachers work to raise students TM self-esteem so they can succeed. About 80 students earned their diploma today, and four college scholarships were given out during the ceremony.
Many of the graduating students plan to go to college to continue their education
