A suspended South Texas police officer is charged with filing bogus time sheets and have sexual relations with a jailed female robbery suspect.
Arraignment was scheduled Wednesday for former Edinburg gang investigator Robert Alvarez. He appeared in a 2009 episode of the History Channel TV series "Gangland."
The McAllen Monitor reports an eight-count indictment unsealed last week says Alvarez misused official information, violated an inmate's civil rights and filed incorrect time sheets involving overtime pay.
Defense lawyer Reynaldo Merino says Alvarez, who was indefinitely suspended in December, is surprised by the indictment.
The indictment says Alvarez had sexual relations with a jailed woman in February 2010.
He's also charged with having a sexual relationship with another woman he allegedly tracked using cell phone records secured through a subpoena.
