An elderly man is fighting for his life tonight after being hit by a car in Brownsville.
It all happened between Van Buren and Harrison Streets on International Boulevard around 7 a.m. Monday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that an elderly man was crossing the street when he was hit by a Dodge Charger.
Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital with serious injuries, including head trauma
Police said the woman driver was in a sports car headed to drop off her children at school.
Interim Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez said she momentarily took her eyes off the road and that's when it's believed she struck the man.
"She was adjusting some controls on the vehicle and she took her eyes off the road and that's when the impact occurred, Chief Rodriguez. It's important that you keep your eyes on the road when you're driving, if you have to pull over to do something like adjust or find something do so."
There were no reports of serious injury to the driver or her children
The driver has not been charged with wrongdoing but police say the investigation is under review.
Police are not releasing the name of neither the driver not the elderly man.
The elderly man remains critical condition.
