Elderly man accused of running cocaine cutting operation

An elderly man is behind bars after being accused of running cocaine cutting and packaging operation out of his apartment.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 60-year-old Alberto Gomez on a drug charge Thursday.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that deputies had his apartment under surveillance.
Deputies were investigating illegal activity at the Border Apartments off Media Luna Road in Brownsville when they saw a man leaving Gomez's apartment.
A traffic stopp revealed that the man who had just left Gomez's apartment had a baggie of cocaine.
Authorities searched Gomez's apartment where they found baggies with more than three-quarters of a pound of cocaine.
Investigators also found masks and a digital scale but also inositol and acetone, which are both used as a cutting agents for cocaine.
Deputies charged Gomez with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.
The 60-year-old man remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
