An elderly Weslaco man passed away following a house fire that trapped him and his wife.
It all happened at a home at 1724 Christan Court shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.
Several firetrucks were called to the home, which is located in a neighborhood off 18th Street just east of South Bridge Avenue.
Investigators told Action 4 News that the man and his wife were trapped inside the home and suffered heart attacks.
Firefighters rescued the two and transported them to the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
George Garrett, emergency coordinator for Weslaco, said the 80-year-old man suffered burns in 40 percent of his body and passed way at the hospital from his injuries.
His elderly wife remains in critical coniditon.
Authorities are not releasing the man's name but property records show that that Rogelio Ramirez bought the $100,000 dollar home back in 2001.
The cause of the fire is undermined at this time.
