Elderly woman burned after lightning strikes Mercedes home

Authorities are investigating a fire that left at least one person injured after lightning struck a Mercedes home.

It all happened at a home off 6th Street and Vermont Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

The lightning struck the home causing the attic to catch fire and collapse on top of her.

An elderly woman was transported to the hospital after the fire.

This morning, she was flow to San Antonio TMs Murphy VA Medical Center where she is being treated for first and second-degree burns.

A witness reported hearing a loud bang in the area when the home was struck by lightning.

The husband of the burn victim said their house is a total loss and said his wife has burns covering 50 percent of her body.

She is reported to be in stable condition at this time.
