An elderly woman is facing criminal charges after being accused of causing a fatal accident between an SUV and two motorcycles.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers have charged 73-year-old Avelinda Saenz with two counts of criminally negligent homicide.
The 73-year-old Raymondville woman is accused in the deaths of two Canadian tourists.
Both 60-year-old David Johns and 69-year-old Gilles Girard died following an accident off FM 490 near Lasara back on January 14th.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Saenz was adjusting a pillow when she lost control of her Cadillac Escalade.
The westbound SUV veered into oncoming traffic hitting two motorcycles with Gilles, Johns and his wife aboard.
Girard died at the scene but paramedics rushed both Johns and his wife to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Johns died in the hospital almost a week after the accident but his wife survived.
State troopers charged Saenz last week where she was booked into the Willacy County Jail but later released on bond.
State troopers have forwarded the case for review by the Willacy County District Attorney's Office.
