Elderly woman identified as victim in fatal Pharr accident

Rosa Ortega Valdez died walking to a store near her home.
Pharr police identified the 65-year-old woman as the victim in a fatal Thursday night autopedestrian accident.
Valdez was killed cross the street at the intersection of Sugar and Ferguson Roads on the city's northwest side.
Family members told Action 4 News that Valdez lived on e block away and was walking to a store at the time of the accident.
According to family members, Valdez was born south of the border in Tamaulipas and had just celebrated her 65th birthday on August 2nd.
Pharr police said 54-year-old Heriberto Contreras of McAllen was driving a gray Jeep Wrangler when he the SUV hit and killed Valdez.
Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Rosa Trevio pronounced Valdez dead and ordered an autopsy.
No criminal charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation.
