Estranged husband kills wife and another man

Harlingen Police Department Sgt. John Parrish

Two people have been shot dead and the suspected gunman is in critical condition following an early Friday morning domestic disturbance in Harlingen.

Harlingen police are investigating the case as a double murder and attempted suicide.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police officers responded to 1013 E. Polk Ave in reference to a burglary in progress around 12:39 a.m. Friday.

While officers were on their way, the caller told a 911 operator that they heard gunfire.

Officers found three subjects suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds:

Sarah Maxwell Montemayor, 29 Devan Leroy Haynes, 28 Omar Montemayor, 34

Investigators reported that Montemayor and his wife Sarah had been separated.

Harlingen police believe that Montemayor broke into his estranged wife's home and then shot and killed Haynes, who police said is from the Karnes City area.

Montemayor allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife and then turned the gun on himself.

Police said paramedics took Montemayor to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where he was last listed in critical condition.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
