Facebook crash affected users worldwide

Facebook acknowledged the problem on its website.

An earthquake hit the social media world on Friday morning.

Facebook went down worldwide on its website and mobile phone app just before 11 a.m. Friday CST.

Service was restored about thirty minutes later.

It's not clear exactly what cause the failure but the problem appeared to have been global.

"Facebook is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces," the company wrote on its developers website. "Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We'll update shortly."

Multiple users from across the world reported on the social media network Twitter that they were unable to use their Facebook accounts.
