Fake insurance card lands Harlingen woman in jail

A Harlingen woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to use a fake insurance card to get her car out of an impound yard.
Harlingen police arrested 24-year-old Francis Leticia Ruiz on a tampering with a government record charge late Thursday afternoon.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Ruiz walked into the Harlingen Police Department before 5 p.m. Thursday.
Ruiz allegedly used a falsified insurance card at the records window to try to get her impounded car back.
Officers arrested Ruiz and learned she was also wanted for an outstanding warrant out of San Patricio County, Texas.
Ruiz appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Friday morning where she was issued a $2,000 dollar bond.
Under Texas state law, tampering with a government records is a Class A misdemeanor punishable up to one year in jail and a $4,000 dollar fine.
