      Edinburg Police Lt. Oscar Treviño

An Edinburg couple is behind bars for posing as veterinaries and performing surgeries on pets without a license.

Jermaine Cortez Dauson, 38, and Diana Hernandez, 32 were both charged with practicing veterinarian medicine without a license today at the Edinburg Municipal Court.

Police said an undercover investigation into an illegal pet medicine practice started about a month ago.

An undercover officer brought a pet to Pampered Pooches Pet Grooming Salon at 2912 East University Drive on Thursday afternoon.

Dauson and Hernandez allegedly examined the pet and recommended medical treatment and medication.

That's when the couple was arrested.

Police said Hernandez and Dauson started a mobile veterinary business then moved the clinic into the pet grooming salon.

Neither of them have a veterinarian license.

Investigators said the pair performed surgeries, prescribed medicine and gave injections to pets.

They were both given a $10,000 bond each.

The Texas Board of Veterinarians assisted in the investigation.
