Fatal crash victim identified as soldier home from Iraq

A 23-year-old man who died in an early Sunday morning wreck has been identified as a soldier who was home from Iraq.
State troopers reported that a 23-year-old Spc. Joseph Alaniz, Jr. was killed following a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers said the fatal wreck took place off State Highway 345 at 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Alaniz was behind the wheel of a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer.
Alaniz was headed southbound and driving south of Castillo Road in Cameron County when he overcorrected, skid sideways and rolled over.
Paramedics rushed Alaniz to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where we was pronounced dead.
Family members told Action 4 News that Alaniz served in the Army in Iraq.
Funeral service for Alaniz are being held at the San Benito Funeral Home off West Highway 77.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tueday and from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
A funeral Mass will be held on at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 317 W. Magnolia Ave. in La Feria.
Burial will follow to Heavenly Grace Cemetery in La Feria.
