The father of the Olmito teen accused of raping a 15-year-old girl with mental problems spoke out on camera.
Benito Banuelos said his son is not to blame for the alleged incident.
Cameron County Sherriff's deputies arrested 19-year-old Sean Banuelos this past Tuesday outside his home at the St. Francis de Assisi development north of Olmito.
Benito Banuelos stands by his son and said he believes 19-year-old is not at fault.
"My son is not capable of doing something that, he said. I mean he works for a handicap child. He's a provider for one of them so he wouldn't do that."
After his arrest, Banuelos told deputies the 15-year-old girl made unwanted advances on him. That's a claim his father also shares.
"They say that she was making advances at him, he added. And to me, since he pushed her away...I think she did it to get back at him as retaliation."
But for the father, who preferred not to show his face on camera, another big issue is why the 15-year-old girl was allowed to wander by herself.
"The way I look at it where is the mom in all this," Banuelos asked. "If I have a handicap child I ain TMt gonna let them walk out of the house by herself."
Action 4 News attempted to contact the family of the girl, but we were unable to reach them.
According to police records, the mother found out about the alleged rape when she found blood stains in her daughters underwear.
She later found out the girl had gone over to the Banuelos family home to visit one of Sean's sisters.
According to the mother, it was Banuelos who had made the advances on her daughter and that 15-year-old girl was the one who refused them.
As of Friday morning, Sean Banuelos remained in custody in the Cameron County Jail under a $50,000 dollar bond.
