'Finders Keepers' mentality backfires on two women

Two San Benito woman surrender to police after criminal warrants are issued against them for finding a wallet and not giving it back.

According to reporters, a surveillance camera captured Maria Martinez,64, and Christina Hernandez-Martinez,36, picking up the wallet from the 1000 block of East Stenger in San Benito on August 20th.

Police said the elderly woman gave the wallet to the 36-year-old, and they drove off.

The apartment manager helped police identify the two women and helped police retrieve the wallet, but the victim claimed $600 in rent money was missing.

A warrant was issued both Maria and Christina.

The pair surrendered to police on Wednesday.

Both were released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.
