Five formally charged in Harlingen chase, officer-involved shooting

Five men, including one who shot at a Harlingen police officer, have been charged.

Investigators told Action 4 News that 48-year-old Robert Serna was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest, reckless driving and tampering with evidence.

According to investigators, an officer had to open fire after Serna tried to run him over following a chase early Thursday morning.

Police said the four other men were with Serna at the time.

They were identified as Matthew Jonathon Hinojosa, Jeremy James Perez, Guadalupe M. Salinas and Adrian Juan Marintez.

They were all charged with tampering with evidence and other crimes.
