Five months after attacking woman with machete, suspect caught

An elderly Harlingen man, who was accused of attacking three women with a machete in March, has been found.

Harlingen police made the arrest on Tuesday evening when they saw Rene Vuittonet near the 800 block of North A Street.

The case stems back to March on the 1000 block of North D St.

Officers said Vuittonet had gone to the home where he knew the women living there and started swinging at them with a machete.

Two of the women were cut by the machete and the third woman had the weapon forced against her chest.

The 63-year-old suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

A warrant was then issued for his arrest in March.

Since he has been caught, Vuittonet is facing Burglary of a Habitation with the intent to commit assault.

His bond was set at $100,000.
