A traffic stop in the Southmost area of Brownsville ended with a man allegedly trying to flee on foot from a state trooper.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 25-year-old Cesar Javier Cepeda on Tuesday.
Court records show that it all happened on San Eugenio Street in the Southmost area of Brownsville at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday.
A state trooper allegedly pulled over a silver 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis because Cepeda was a passenger but allegedly not wearing a seat belt.
A routine records check revealed Cepeda was wanted for violating his probation for driving without a valid license charge in Edna, Texas.
The state trooper tried to handcuff Cepeda but the 25-year-old allegedly fled on foot.
The trooper caught up to Cepeda and tried to handcuff him but he allegedly resisted being arrested.
State troopers released the car back to the driver but charged Cepeda with evading arrest, resisting arrest and the probation violation.
Court records show that Cepeda also had previous arrests in Brownsville and Los Fresnos for driving with an invalid license, terroristic threats, aggravated assault and assault on a public servant going back to 2007.
Cepeda remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
