Can a language barrier between food handlers and management lead to unsafe kitchen conditions at Valley restaurants?
One eatery blamed part of its problems with health inspections on that very issue.
Poncho TMs on 808 North Cage Boulevard in Pharr scored 33 demerits on an initial health inspection report.
A re-inspection turned up 6 demerits.
It TMs the restaurant TMs second low performer rating on Food 4 Thought in less than two months.
Kitchen cops found off-temperature salsas that were ordered destroyed by the health department, and moldy areas were spotted inside the walk-in cooler for food products.
A spokesperson for Poncho TMs said lingering construction, that TMs now been completed, did cause problems during the inspection for restaurant workers.
But he also said a language barrier with staff created problems too.
Some people who eat out have argued in the past how kitchen cleanliness should a universal language.
The Food Patrol brought their concerns out during the interview.
