The former quarterback for Edinburg North High school was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
McAllen Police arrested Joel Josue Cuellar, 18, early Friday morning.
An officer responded to a call about a suspicious car parked at the 2000 block of Fern Avenue, just past midnight.
The officer found Cuellar inside the car, along with his alleged victim, an 11-year-old boy.
Police arrested Cuellar on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and booked him into jail.
Later that Friday, he faced a judge and was issued a $250,000 bond.
Cuellar was transported the Hidalgo County jail.
His Facebook page shows several photos of him as a quarterback for the Edinburg North football team.
As of Saturday morning, many of his friends on Facebook had left several messages of support.
Your one of the sweetest, nicest, own to earth person I have met, one of his friends, Michelle Becerra, wrote. Your [sic] not capable of hurting a fly. You will be in our prayers.
Jody Valdez who was not as supportive wrote, "Well, I wish I didn't have to hear this about my former teammate."
