After more than a year in the courts, a former Edinburg North quarterback has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a boy.

Joel Josue Cuellar appeared for trial in the 332nd State District Court on Tuesday morning.

Accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child, the former Edinburg North quarterback entered into a plea agreement.

Court records show Cuellar pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child but is asking for probation/deferred adjudication.

The records show Cuellar acknowledges that he'll have to register as a sex offender.

Sentencing for the case is now set for January 10th.

McAllen police arrested Cuellar at a local park back in July 2012.

Investigators said he was caught in a sexual act with an 11-year-old boy.
