A man and a woman are facing criminal charges after a police officer discovered that they had counterfeit cash during a traffic stop in Harlingen.

Harlingen police arrested 35-year-old Jesus Daniel Pea, Jr. and 29-year-old Joanna Pea Nava on multiple criminal charges on Tuesday night.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a police officer stopped their car for a traffic violation off Oklahoma Avenue and Interstate 69 East at 7:54 p.m. Tuesday.

The officer learned that Pea had an outstanding warrant from Hidalgo County for assault and that Nava had outstanding traffic tickets in Edinburg.

Officers inventoried their property and allegedly found a total of 26 fake $20 dollars bills and one fake $1 dollar bill.

Investigators also reported finding equipment use to make the counterfeit cash in their car.

Police reported that Pea is from La Blanca while Nava is from Edinburg.

The two remain behind bars under forgery and failure to identify charges as well as their outstanding warrants.
