Gang member fires shots before hiding from police

A felon is now behind bars after firing shots during an argument with his father.

The incident happened on Saturday morning at the 1200 block of West View in San Juan.

Authorities tell Action 4 News it all started with an argument when the felon pulled out a gun and fired round into the air around 4:00 am.

The shots fired did not injure anyone, and the father was able to call the San Juan Police Department.

That's when authorities showed up, and the father was able to escape from the home.

The felon barricaded himself inside the home, and police continued to negotiate with the suspect.

After a 3.5 hour long standoff police were able to go into the home where they found Roberto Rivera Jr. hiding underneath the house, according to police.

Rivera was taken into custody and is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

The felon has an extensive criminal record including aggravated assault and evading arrest, police said.

Police confirm Rivera is a po boys gang member.

Authorities are still investigating the incident at this time.
