Girl recovering from near drowning at Schlitterbahn on South Padre Island

It was a close call for a teenage girl after she nearly drowned at Schlitterbahn water park on Thursday.

Cameron County officials told Action 4 News that the 12 to 13-year-old girl remains hospitalized in Brownsville.

A lifeguard spotted the girl floating unconscious down the park TMs main river ride.

The lifeguard pulled her out and immediately started CPR.

Officials believe that the girl possibly had a seizure or somehow hit her head as she floated down the river.

Schlitterbahn officials did not speak on camera but issued a statement: "The safety of our guests and employees is a top priority. Our lifeguard team was immediately on the scene and offered first aid. The guest became responsive and was transported by EMS for additional evaluation.

South Padre Island police are investigating this case.

The girl is listed in stable condition.
