Girls caught with heroin inside Subway restaurant

Two Brownsville girls are behind bars after allegedly getting caught using heroin.

Police said it happened in the restroom of a Subway restaurant.

According to police, 19-year-old Karen Jaramillo and 20-year-old Marianne Gomez were taken into custody at the sandwich shop on the 1400 block of Palm Blvd.

Store employees noticed the women walk into the restroom together and when the women didn't come out after several minutes, employees got suspicious and called police.

When officers arrived, they found the girls in possession of heroin. "Once the officers got there they found drug paraphernalia, syringes and ultimately they found heroin on their person," Brownsville Police Spokesperson J.J. Trevino said.

Although police have not noticed a specific increase of heroin arrests recently, they said it is readily available on the streets and a very dangerous and addicting drug.

The women are both charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia including lighters, spoons and syringes.
