Grandfather with dementia, diabetes goes missing on Christmas Eve

Ariel "Rele " Moreno

An elderly Escobares man went missing on Christmas Eve.

The family of 82-year-old Ariel Moreno reached out to Action 4 News desperate for help.

A Silver Alert was placed for Moreno just before noon on Christmas.

The alert said Moreno was lest seen on foot.

The family said their grandfather "Rele" walked out the door just before 11 a.m., Tuesday Christmas Eve.

Moreno, also known as "Rele" by his loved ones, walked out the front door of his home near Victor Road in Escobares.

His family said he has dementia and suffers from diabetes. Because he is on medication, this has made the search more crucial.

According to the Escobares Police Chief Guadalupe Marquez, surrounding agencies including the Starr County Sheriff's Office, Border Patrol, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers and even fire fighters with the city put a halt on their holiday festivities to join forces and find Moreno.

After twelve hours of searching there was still no sight of the missing grandfather.

The search was temporarily called off.

Escobares Police Department will continue the search on Christmas morning in hopes to bring him home in time for the holiday.
