Matamoros residents are reporting a shootout and a narcoblockades on one of the city's busiest roadways and shopping centers.
It all happened on the Sendero Nacional Highway on the city's southwest side shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday.
Authorities reported that the blockades were cleared by 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
But residents had turned to the social media network Twitter to post photos and share information about the incident.
According to reports, blockades and gunfire were reported on the Sendero Nacional between Avenidas 12 de Marzo and Constituyentes.
The location of the shootout and blockades is near the Plaza Sendero, a popular shopping mall.
Mexican officials have not issued any information but the American Consulate in Matamoros posted a tweet repeating reports by local residents.
It's not clear who is involved in the shootout and there are no reports of casaulties or injuries at this time.
