Harlingen cheer coach arrested for sexual assault of child

Harlingen Police arrested a cheer coach on Sunday evening on charges for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Sgt. John Parrish said officers arrested Andrew Gonzales Sunday at about 5 p.m.

He is the co-owner and coach of Elite Cheer Force on "T" and Jefferson Streets in Harlingen.

Sgt. Parrish said officers arrested Gonzales on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

An employee at Elite Cheer Force told Action 4 News he had no knowledge of what happened.

But he added that all activities scheduled at the cheer and tumbling school were cancelled for the remainder of Sunday.

Gonzales will be arraigned on Monday morning.
