Harlingen couple gets $500,000 bonds for beaten baby

A Harlingen couple is behind bars after their 11-month-old boy ended up in critical condition at a local hospital with signs of physical abuse.

Harlingen police arrested 21-year-old Barbara Barron Bravo and 29-year-old Jesus Gonzalez on Tuesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police launched a child abuse investigation on Monday evening.


That TMs when an ambulance was sent to a home on the 1000 block of East Adams Street to help an 11-month-old boy.

Paramedics gave CPR to the child but had to take the boy to the emergency room of the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Doctors told police that the baby boy had bruises all over his body and a scratch to the back of his head.

Investigators said the boy is still listed in critical condition.

Criminal Charges

Child Protective Service officials have taken custody of the boy TMs 2-year-old brother and 4-year-old sister.

Police interviewed Bravo on Tuesday and decided to charge both her and Gonzalez with first-degree felony injury to a child charges.

Bravo and Gonzalez appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Wednesday afternoon where they were issued $500,000 dollar bonds.

Both of them remained in custody at the Harlingen City Jail on Thursday morning.
