Harlingen resident found guilty for sexually abusing a child.
Francisco Matamoros was charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sexual assault of a child.
According to Jessica TMs Law, Matamoros is facing a minimum of 25 years with no opportunity for parole or early release.
The 43-year-old could face a life sentence.
Jessica TMs Law allows some of the harshest punishments for those who commit continuous sexual abuse on a child.
According to court documents, Matamoros began the sexual abuse when the now 16-year-old victim was in fourth grade.
Cameron County District Attorneys Stephanie Rollins and Brandy Bailey prosecuted the case.
The verdict demonstrates that Cameron County takes a firm stance against child abuse, Bailey said.
Matamoros will return to court for his sentencing on Monday.
