      Harlingen man takes to rooftop to escape from police

      A young Harlingen man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly took to a rooftop to escape from police during a foot chase.

      Harlingen police arrested 20-year-old Jose Gerardo Reyes on an evading arrest charge on Sunday evening.

      Investigators told Actions 4 News that an officer was on patrol when he saw Reyes and two other males on the 800 block of South 7th Street.

      Reyes allegedly put something in his pocket and took off running.

      Police found Reyes in the yard of a house where he climbed to the roof.

      Officers said Reyes ran back and forth on the roof looking for a way to escape but was taken into custody when he jumped off.

      It TMs not clear why Reyes ran from police but officers charged him with evading arrest charges.

      Reyes appeared before a Harlingen municipal court judge on Monday morning where he was issued a $2,500 dollar bond.
