A man is behind bars after he allegedly assaulted and grabbed his girlfriend by her throat, throwing her against a wall.

The incident originally happened back in January 2014 on the 900 block of Bluebonnet Drive after the victim and Robert Anthony Perez were in an argument.

The victim reportedly told police that the argument with 21-year-old Perez turned physical.

Perez allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and threw her against a wall at the residence, causing pain.

Police said the victim attempted to call 911 during the incident, but Perez took the phone and threw it, breaking the phone on the concrete.

Detectives issued arrest warrants for the Harlingen resident for assault and interference with an emergency call.

Authorities arrested Perez Tuesday morning on the 1700 block of W. Filmore Avenue.

A total bond of $5,000 was set, and the 21-year-old was charged with assault (family violence) and interference with an emergency call.
