Two Harlingen men are behind bars after they were allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident while driving around in a stolen car.
Harlingen police arrested 19-year-old Scott Joseph Cuellar and 20-year-old Adrian Jay Romero on multiple charges on Wednesday.
The two men were allegedly inside a gold 2005 Chevrolet Malibu that was involved in a hit-and-run accident off the 300 block of South Loop 499 around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses provided a license plate and police were able to track the car down to a home off Susan Avenue on the city TMs north side.
Both Cuellar and Romero were in the car and back out of the driveway when police arrived.
The two fled on foot but officers were able to catch both of them.
Investigators said Cuellar was behind the wheel and appeared to be intoxicated.
Police recovered the stolen vehicle and charged Cuellar with intoxication assault, felony theft, evading arrest and a hit-and-run accident.
Officers charged Romero with felony theft and evading arrest.
Both men appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Thursday morning where Cuellar was issued $47,500 dollars in bonds and Romera was issued $7,500 dollars in bonds.
