A Harlingen teen competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee has made it through the second round of the competition.
Sean Wang, an 8th grader at Calvary Christian School, said he made it to the next round with the word dahlia.
Wang got the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to compete after he won the regional competition in Weslaco.
The teen told Action 4 News he has been interested in spelling competitions since 4th grade.
Even though he did not win the spelling that year, Sean gained interest again in middle school and won the 2013 class competition.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is expected to last from Tuesday to Thursday.
Sean will compete in round three and then go on to the semi-finals.
