Harlingen native drowns while saving person in capsized canoe

A Harlingen native lost his life after he tried to help a person whose canoe capsized in a lake just north of Dallas.

Little Elm police confirmed that 41-year-old Mark Vasquez died after drowning at Lake Lewisville on Saturday.

Investigators confirmed that a canoe capsized off Lakeshore Drive.

Vasquez jumped in the water to save the canoeist but lost his life.

Firefighters reported that Vasquez was not wearing a life jacket.

The Town of Little Elm offered its condolences to Vasquez TMs family and friends on its Facebook page.

Vasquez was living in Little Elm at the time of his death but was originally from Harlingen.
