Harlingen police arrest 17-year-old driver accused of leaving scene of fatal crash

Police have arrested a 17-year-old driver involved in a fatal crash Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the Harlingen Police Department.

Jershaiah Gutierrez, 17, of Harlingen is accused of leaving the scene of a car crash that killed 19-year-old Andres Macias.

As CBS 4 News previously reported, police responded to the 1300 block of South Commerce St. at about 5:45 a.m regarding a single-vehicle crash. Police found Macias critically injured inside a Dodge Challenger. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

During the course of investigation, police identified Gutierrez as the driver of the Dodge Challenger.

Gutierrez was charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony; and accident involving death, a second-degree felony.

Bond was set at $150,000.
