A Harlingen police officer is off the job after getting arrested over the weekend.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Erick Estrada early Monday morning.
Estrada is facing a Class C misdemeanor assault by threat charge.
Court records show that the domestic violence incident happened at Estrada's home off Tapachula Drive in Brownsville.
According to an affidavit, Estrada came home late, was drunk and banging on the door when his wife called 911.
Estrada left to his mother's house where deputies found and arrested him.
Harlingen Police Department administrators confirmed that Estrada is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
According to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) regulations, a conviction would not affect Estrada's peace officer license.
TCLEOSE regulations state that only a conviction for a Class B misdemeanor or higher can affect a peacer officer's license.
