The Harlingen Police Department issued a press release stating crime has been reduced 20 percent.
According to the Harlingen Police Department, the reduction is part of the Uniform Crime Reporting program.
The reduction happened from January to July, according to police.
The Uniform Crime Reporting initiative was instated in 2012 and the police chief attributes the success to the citizens and frontline officers.
