Harlingen shooting victim dies, no leads

From charges of drug possession to unauthorized use of a vehicle and theft, Texas Department of Public Safety records show that 27-year-old Ramiro Barron of Harlingen had several run-ins with the law, over the past few years.

The Harlingen man was gunned down Saturday around 6:30 p.m., on the 2000 block of Knox Avenue, off Rangerville Road.

Harlingen Police said when they arrived at the scene; they found Barron shot on the street. He was rushed to Valley Baptist Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

Police also said witnesses reported hearing three to four gunshots; however, they have only confirmed one shot hit Barron in the torso.

Witnesses also told police they saw two men flee from the area after the shooting.

Police said the men were in a light-colored pick-up, with a loud muffler and toolbox in the truck bed.

Action 4 News visited the Barron home Sunday for comment, but the family shut their door on us.

Police said an autopsy has been ordered.

Meanwhile, they continue talking to witnesses for a possible lead.
