Harlingen woman jailed for alleged bottle rocket attack

A Harlingen woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly launched a bottle rocket into a man's home and caused a fire on Christmas Day.

Harlingen police arrested 27-year-old Brenda Villarreal on an arson charge on Tuesday evening.

Investigators said it all happened at a home on the 400 block of South K Street.

Villarreal is accused of launching bottle rocket that broke through glass of the front door of this house and caused a fire in the living room.

The homeowner told police that he had to evacuate an elderly family member before he was able to put out the fire.

Villarreal fled the scene but officers reported finding her nearby.

The Harlingen woman appeared before a municipal court judge on Wednesday morning where she was issued a $5,000 dollar bond.
