Harlingen wreck leaves family, state trooper in hospital

Accident involving a state trooper patrol unit off FM 800 just north of Harlingen

Authorities are investigating an accident involving a car carrying a family of three and a state trooper TMs patrol unit.

The accident happened on FM 800 north of Wilson Road just outside Harlingen city limits around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accident.

Investigators reported that the accident involved a 2007 Ford Fusion and a DPS patrol unit.

A man, woman and their 3-year-old child were reported to be inside the Ford Fusion.

The DPS patrol unit was hit on the driver's side door.

Paramedics rushed the state trooper and the family to the hospital.

Their medical condition was not immediately known but investigators said they were being treated for minor injuries.

Details about the accident were not immediately available but authorities blocked off that section of FM 800 while state troopers analyzed the scene of the accident.

Public records show that the Ford Fusion was registered to Orlando Vasquez, who lives 83 miles away off of FM 2294 in the Starr County community of Santa Elena.
