Heart attack blamed for truck crashing into telephone pole

Pickup truck slams into telephone pole

Authorities believe a heart attack is responsible for a fatal accident where a man slammed his pickup truck into a telephone pole.

It all happened near the intersection of Leal and Espinoza Roads in the rural Cameron County community of La Paloma around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers and Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to the accident.

Investigators believe a man had a heart attack causing him to crash his pickup truck into a telephone poll.

Witnesses told Action 4 News that the man's foot stayed on the gas pedal causing the tires to keep spinning and smoke.

A Good Samaritan got the truck to turn off before firefighters and paramedics arrived and gave the man CPR.

Paramedics were able to revive the man and took him to a local hospital for treatment.

DPS Sgt. Johnny Hernandez told Action 4 News that the man passed away at the hospital. The man's name was not immediately available.
