Authorities told Action 4 News that a quick-thinking trainer helped save the lives of several pre-school students after their bus driver who may have suffered a heart attack.
Harlingen police told Action 4 News that the bus driver was driving off Teege and T Streets shortly before noon on Thursday.
Investigators said the bus driver slumped over due to a heart attack or another medical problem.
Police said the bus had several pre-school students, a school monitor and a trainer on board.
Investigators said the trainer pulled the emergency brake and managed to get the bus pulled over. The students were not injured in the incident.
A police officer reporting to the scene gave the bus driver CPR.
Paramedics rushed the bus driver to a local hospital where he later died.
The driver's identity was not released but police said he was a Caucasian male in his 50s.
