Heroin and meth found hidden inside livestock trailer

A husband and wife were caught at the Falfurrias Checkpoint with heroin and methamphetamine inside their livestock trailer.

The couple was trying to go through the checkpoint around 6 p.m. on March 2nd.

They identified themselves to Border Patrol agents as Macario Martinez and Shawn Jackson.

Their Ford F-250 and trailer were sent to a secondary inspection when a service canine alerted agents to drugs possibly being inside the trailer.

During the inspection, 10.1 pounds of heroin and 7.45 pounds of meth were found hidden within some saddle blankets.

Martinez admitted to knowing the drugs were in the trailer.

He told agents he had driven down from George West to Edinburg to purchase two cows at a cattle auction.

Martinez said he waited for an unknown individual to load the drug laden saddle blanket in the trailer.

He said he was asked to deliver the drugs to another unknown individual back in George West.

Jackson said she had no knowledge of the heroin and meth being in the trailer.

Martinez was taken into custody, but Jackson was released
